What are marigolds?
Calendula officinalis is in the plant family known as Asteraceae or Compositae. Calendula marigolds are yellow-orange in color and form small flower petals that are harvested and dried for their many medicinal properties.
Although many different types of marigold flowers are grown around the world, calendula is considered the most medicinal. It is native to Egypt and parts of the Mediterranean but is now grown on every continent, usually blooming in the warmer months of the year (from about May to October in the Northern Hemisphere).
